Since shedding a few excess pounds and embracing life as a cyclist in Vancouver, I have kept my eyes open for races to enter. There’s something about a sporting event to challenge ones own physical abilities that has always inspired me. I’ve not yet claimed a gold medal or a certificate of completion, but I’ve been working my way towards it. Being aware of events and people in the community that ARE achieving these goals, is the best way to maintain enthusiasm. Enter-Incredible Jane.
As friends from the 8th grade, it’s been exciting for me to see her overcome all training obstacles prior to her first triathalon in 10 years. A lot can happen to a body in that time, so re-claiming the aptitude to swim, cycle and run against a clock is a feat to support and recognize. This is why I made it a priority in attending the event at UBC. It was with great pride that I hollered and rang my cowbell every time she passed me on the sidelines.
Nervous as she may have felt standing on the edge of the pool, she looked like a pro. Kitted out in gear from her main sponsor Sugoi, she was clearly a competitor. Stretching muscles and shaking out any tensions, she took on the challenge in true athletic form.
Having a mentor in sport in such a valuable option to any newcomer. During her months of training, Incredible Jabe tweeted and blogged and learned from others embracing the same challenge. The guidance she received was shared and in turn, kept the inspiration wheel turning for myself as well.
Incredible Jane completed the race in record time. The relief and self pride was immediately evident on her face at the finish line. I continue to use that image of her in my own athletic goals. I’ve decided to combine the race adrenalin with travel adrenalin, and am now actively searching for the perfect date and location to meet my goal.
So thank you my dear friend, aka Incredible Jane! Having read her last post and watched her video this morning, I’m confident we’ll be seeing more of her in the months to come. And to all of you combining sport and travel dreams - keep me posted! I’m looking for a new challenge!
Cheers me dears,
Fiona

The race for the most votes in the Best Travel Job Ever has stepped up a few notches with some amazing entries. I’ve moved into 3rd place with Jason still at my heels, but I’m hoping to hang on till the end with a medal finish.
It’s amazing how this competition has taken over my life. Of course I really want the opportunity to travel and document my experiences with the world, so it’s important for me to reach out in as many ways as possible to get support and awareness and increase my daily votes. In doing this, I have had such a blast taking photos, making new videos, meeting new people AND reconnecting with old travelling buddies.
It’s made me think a little more about those folks that live on the other side of the world, but still share memories with me. As a traveller, it’s difficult to keep connections with everybody you meet-life is busy where ever you are. But simply knowing that somebody else brings up the same image of treking the Inca Trail or hears the same laughter from a party in the desert, makes me a happy traveller. These images and connections also spark me to make more. Which is why I want to win the Best Travel Job Ever!
So if you’ve been voting daily already-thank you 10x over. If you voted once and then forgot-I’M HERE TO REMIND YOU!! I have only 6 days to hold onto one of the top three spots. I need 100+ votes per day to do this, and right now I’m averaging about 80 per day. Please return to Fiona’s Best Travel Job Ever ,login with your email and password and then click to vote! You can vote daily till the 30th pretty please and thank you!
I’ve also added a couple of additional support videos; view them here, on facebook, or on youtube. And please add your comments beneath my application video on the main Best Travel Job Ever site-I’d like the judges to see your support there too!

Thanks again everyone,
super duper hugs to y’all!

The Best Travel Job Ever-Part 2.5!
Filed under Vancouver Life | Leave a Comment
When I first started my travel blogs here and as ‘coffeecat’ I didn’t include any videos, it was all about developing the words and simply adding photos. And now? I’ve got the video travel bug. I find myself furiously scribbling into my notebook throughout the day and night, so that I don’t forget ideas or images that float across my mind. Examples are all over the board:
-capture the new magnolia flowers in Vancouver
-tell them about that classic joke from Laos
-take them snowshoeing while Vancouver actually has some amazing snow
-somehow use the atomic fart application from my phone
So I’m continuing to learn how it’s all done, hence BTJE Posting 2.5….I couldn’t seem to write my own summary having used vodpod to transfer the video to this site (any tips anyone?)
In a way, I look forward to when the competition is over as maybe I won’t be so pre-occupied. But in all honesty, I wouldn’t trade in this buzz for anything! With that being said, I have a new video to support my application…and I still need your votes! So watch the video in the previous posting, hopefully laugh as much as I did, and then go to Best Travel Job Ever to cast your daily vote. Spread the word and hopefully, with your efforts and my efforts, I actually get chosen for the Best Travel Job Ever!
Thanks again : D
